SKD11 liner barrels have become a widely discussed solution in high-filler PVC extrusion industries such as SPC flooring, WPC profiles and PVC wall panels.
As one of the earliest Chinese manufacturers involved in SKD liner barrel development since 2012, Huachen Screw has accumulated 14 years of practical experience in wear-resistant screw barrel solutions for conical and parallel twin screw extruders.
This article shares practical insights into the development history, advantages, limitations and real industrial applications of SKD11 liner barrels in PVC extrusion.
Recently, we’ve noticed heated discussions about SKD liner barrel technology across social media and industry enquiries. Some peers even regard it as a brand-new alloy technology. Looking at these familiar structure drawings, I cannot help but smile.
As one of the earliest practitioners who developed and promoted SKD liner barrels in China, we want to make it clear: this is never a new technology. It has served the high-filler extrusion industry steadily for 14 years.
Today, from the perspective of Huachen Screw, we will talk about the story behind this technology, and why it still remains a highly practical choice in the global extrusion industry in 2026.
Back in 2012, China’s PVC and WPC industries entered a rapid growth period. The market faced severe challenges. The calcium carbonate content in formulas rose sharply from 50 parts to 200 parts, even up to 350 parts.
Traditional nitrided barrels wore out easily and failed within just three months under such harsh materials. Full alloy barrels cost too much, which was unaffordable for most expanding factories. Clients had simple and clear demands: good wear resistance at a reasonable price.
Under such circumstances, our team started research and tests on SKD liner barrels. We compared SKD11 and SKD61 repeatedly. SKD61 owns better toughness, while SKD11 takes advantages in extreme wear resistance and cost performance. Finally, we confirmed SKD11 as our main production material.
The early research was full of difficulties. Without advanced CNC grinding equipment back then, we spent up to half a year finishing one order to ensure perfect fitting between the figure-8 shaped inner liner and barrel body of conical twin screw barrels, which was three times longer than current working hours.

We also tried many tough applications:
We once faced troubles like skilled workers being poached and tight delivery schedules. All these experiences helped us master core quenching and precision grinding skills, which have become solid technical barriers that many followers cannot break through.
Based on rich practical experience, we have to state the facts clearly. SKD liner barrels cannot completely replace bimetallic barrels.
It shows outstanding wear resistance in high-filler PVC products above 150 parts filler, such as SPC flooring, WPC profiles and PVC wall panels.
Different from integrated grooved alloy barrels, SKD barrels are assembled with different materials, so its uniform heat distribution is slightly weaker. For medium and low filler formulas requiring stable plasticization, grooved alloy barrels are more cost-effective.
Common SKD11 does not work steadily for corrosive PVC foam boards. We have developed new alloy liner barrels and circumferential alloy processes specially for foam board production with targeted material selection.

Along with the export boom of Chinese extrusion equipment, SKD technology has been widely accepted in India, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
I still remember at Plastindia 2015, an Indian maintenance engineer argued with me that it was impossible to embed liners inside barrels. After seeing our real products and putting them into local factories in Ahmedabad, we became good partners.
Now more and more high-filler PVC manufacturers across India choose to equip their machines with SKD barrels. It reflects global cost pressure and wide recognition of mature Chinese extrusion technology.
There is no absolute new or old technology, only suitable or unsuitable solutions. After 14 years of continuous improvement by Huachen Screw, SKD liner barrel is never an expensive marketing concept, but a cost-effective anti-wear solution proved by massive on-site practice.

SKD11 liner barrels are wear-resistant screw barrels designed for high filler PVC extrusion applications. They use hardened SKD11 alloy liners embedded inside the barrel body to improve service life under abrasive materials.
Not always. SKD11 liner barrels perform very well in high calcium carbonate PVC extrusion, while bimetallic barrels may offer better heat uniformity and corrosion resistance in certain applications.
Not always. SKD11 liner barrels perform very well in high calcium carbonate PVC extrusion, while bimetallic barrels may offer better heat uniformity and corrosion resistance in certain applications.
Typical applications include SPC flooring, WPC profiles, PVC wall panels, high filler PVC pipes and recycled material extrusion.
SKD11 liner barrels usually provide significantly better wear resistance and longer service life in abrasive extrusion environments.
